The Battle that is said to have begun it all....
The amazing thing about history is that we really have NO idea what happened. We can only imagine and reflect through the filters of our own beliefs and experiences.
But, with that said, imagine we must because as those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.
Or are the facts really just such that there is no history just a repeating of themes and ideas and our own journey both individually and within the context of our generation?
I have begun to think more of the latter than the former.
And so I want to share this movie with you, April Morning, based on the book by Howard Fast which gives us a window into one day in the life of the American Revolution, April 19, 1775. We know this day as the 'shot heard round the world' and the birth of a revolution in which many reading this are experiencing a life because of it.
What makes this movie of particular interest is it provides a real life kind of window into what that day could have been like for a young boy of 15ish trying to understand his role, what was happening, and what it all meant.
It is easy to take historical events and look at the facts and outcomes from an objective and distant view. But history is for those living it, just another day.
I will build on this more tomorrow in the podcast, but for here and now, I encourage you to watch this movie ideally with your family to begin a discussion of more than plot points or story lines. But from the perspective, what would you do if it was you?
Oh, wait, I think it is. But with that said, this movie provides a human face and real place to the history we have condensed into a tiny fact that happened once upon a time.
I hope you will enjoy and stay tuned for even more tomorrow!!!
